Novella Nelson jest osobistością teatralną, filmową i telewizyjną, która w roku 1993 zdobyła NAACP Image Award. Na ekranie Nelson pojawiła się w następujących produkcjach: The Seuduction of Joe Tynan, The Unmarried Woman, The Cotton Club, The Flamingo Kid, Dominick and Eugene, Zielona karta, Clockers i Dziewczyna nr 6 Spike'a Lee itd. Filmy i mini seriale telewizyjne z jej udziałem to "The Doctor's Story", "Chiefs", "He's Fired, She's Hired", "The Investigation", "Innocent Victims", "The Summer of Ben Tyler", "Harambee" oraz seriale "The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd", "The Equalizer" i "Law and Order".
